When I first thought to write this review my mind settled on playful, tongue-in-cheek imitation of Vonnegut’s style. Mimicry of motifs really. From there, it lurched onto a brief archival stack of Goodreads comments I must have set aside in some dusty corner up there for reasons unknown to you, me, or science (at least any science I’ve had the pleasure to know). It was then—looking at the stack of comments as screenshots seemingly pasted to foam poster board and heaped sloppily in that dusty corner alongside various Tweets and YouTube comments of seriously questionable importance yet immortalized here all the same—that I realized everyone and their mother has already taken gratuitous liberty with the various cutesy and-this-is-what-it-looked-likes, and-so-ons, and ETCs. Long after Kurt played with these quirks and got his kicks they continue to be passed around, tried on, and paraded down Main Streets of literary comment sections across the World Wide Web. Now, these stylistic hand me downs are worn and shabby.
I enjoyed Breakfast of Champions immensely and regard it fondly among other Vonnegut titles I have read and enjoyed. This stuff is edgy and funny in the best way. I won’t, however, do you the disservice of polluting the precious real estate of your personal array of pixels by throwing up whatever knee jerk, copy cat blabbery I was about to spew out… Well, maybe that’s all I’ve done here in the end anyway but JOKES ON YOU NO THING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE NEXT THING AND ITS ALL ABSURD AND IRONIC AND YOU CANT MAKE ME TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!
