One of those productivity/self-improvement books that has been on my to-read back burner for so long I’ve already fumbled my way into many of the strategies described.
Still, good to be reminded as many times as necessary that attention is at the root of anything worthwhile.
Newport exhaustively evangelizes the economic advantages of cultivating a deep work practice in one’s professional life – producing prolifically, wringing more from the hours in the day, outcompeting your peers – yet even he can’t deny the spiritual benefits in cultivating a sense of autonomy, well being, and attunement in following through on one’s own best intentions.
Having an attention based practice seems damn near essential for survival in our time.
