Review:

I appreciate the depravity here and I recognize HST’s influence and development of Gonzo journalism. The 4 stars ride on these two points. My experience of the story (at times you won’t find any semblance of “story”) settles slightly lower than 4 star. I think the deranged stream of consciousness style was probably much more shocking and novel at the time of writing. Nowadays, thanks to influence of writers like HST, it is familiar. That said I did enjoy this read and consider it an important piece of postmodern American literature, leaving a trail surely followed — and now well rutted — by many inspired writers and artists.
